New Delhi, March 16, 2016: Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg surely is an icon in India and his innovative social media platform, ‘Facebook’ is used by millions of Indians every day. Today he shared with his fans and followers how Facebook is bridging the gap between India and Pakistan. Here is what he wrote:
Something pretty interesting is happening in India and Pakistan on Facebook right now. Last week marked the beginning of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 — the biggest cricket tournament of the year. This is the first time the tournament is being hosted by India.
Fans around the world are going to facebook.com/profilepicframes and using a profile frame to show support for their favorite teams. But fans from India and Pakistan are doing something different. Hundreds of thousands of Indian cricket fans are putting the Pakistani frame around their picture. And Pakistani fans are doing the same thing — showing support for India. They’re using the hashtag #ProfilesForPeace.
Mark Zuckerberg then went on to give a broader message of peace and love between people. Here is what he said:
When we designed the profile frames feature, we just wanted to help people show support for their favorite teams or a cause they believe in. But this story shows that the more connected we are, the more we realize that what unites us is more important than what divides us.
The Facebook’s founder is indeed happy with what his platform has given to the two nations but then it is a fact that this entire online movement is run by a handful of people and India has repeatedly been a victim of terrorism across the border and due to this. India has also denied permission to five Pakistani diplomats who wanted to travel to Kolkata to watch World Cup T20 cricket match.
Nevertheless, Mark Zuckerberg indeed has a reason to be happy, as his platform has given voice to cricket-loving fans of both the nations.
Mark Zuckerberg has earlier supported Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative Digital India and even changed his profile picture to support Digital India. Check his picture below:
He later told the Indian Prime Minister that on the advice of the late Apple founder Steve Jobs he visited a temple that Job’s too had visited and the temple was none other than Kainchi Dham Ashram in Nainital, Uttarakhand.
