Shreya Ghoshal calls for ban on Chinese kite string

Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal crow ban chinese kite string manjha

Popular Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal’s post on the Chinese kite string or Chinese manjha is garnering a huge debate on Facebook.

A concerned Shreya Ghoshal had shared an incident of a video on her Facebook account in which she wrote:

“A crow caught in kite strings (manjha). These strings are the Chinese ones which are probably made of nylon, extremely strong. Fellow crows managed to get him freed from entanglement. Amazing fellowship.”

The Bollywood singer then also narrated another incident in which another crow had got his leg entangled in such Chinese kite string.

Shreya Ghoshal giving details of this particular incident said that “He (the crow) was dangling at a great height. Fellow crows tried without success. Mumbai fire brigade was called. They could free him from death trap using their hydraulic ladder.”

Shreya then in a passionate appeal to authorities said that “THESE CHINESE KITE STRINGS SHOULD BE BANNED. THEY ARE CAUSING GREAT HARM TO THE UNSUSPECTING BIRDS WHO CANNOT SEE THEM AND GET CAUGHT. MOST OF THEM SUCCUMB TO SLOW DEATH.”

It has to be seen if her appeal would be heard by the people who matter in this case, but for long animal lovers and activists have been demanding the same that Shreya Ghoshal asked for in this case.

Hundreds of birds and even humans get injured as the deadly Chinese manjha cuts through the skin and in many cases could lead to death as well.

In 2015, in Nagpur just to ensure the safety of the motorists during the festival of Makar Sankranti, Mayor Pravin Datke had even asked the traffic police to see that the  main city flyovers and over-bridges be shut down.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal’s celebrity status will certainly help bring to light the plight of birds, animals and humans who could become the victims of deadly Chinese kite strings.
