Syed Ata Hasnain : No attack happened on Martand Temple

A video allegedly showing Kashmiri Muslims attacking the famous Hindu Temple, the Martand Temple, has gone viral on social media. But Syed Ata Hasnain, Lt. Gen (Retd), Indian Army, has confirmed that the video is doctored. Worse, he has said that the video could be the work of Pakistan’s information warriors who wish to keep Kashmir on the boil.

He also advised a person to not ‘sleep with the enemy’ and not be ‘defeatist either.’
Syed Ata Hasnain requested his followers on Twitter to not heed to the rumours which alleged that the Hindu Temple was being attacked and also underscored that the media sources from Kashmir are denying the attack. He also requested people to block or report certain people who he identified as those who are spreading hate.

Touching a raw nerve he also advised a person to also circulate about him, an Indian Muslim, who prostrated 8 times before Lord Shiva:

In short, he tried to defuse the situation on his Twitter handle. However, these reports to point to the misuse of social media by vested interests and the government needs to put checks and balances in place to let the peace prevail.
However, it is worrisome that the state government has not issued a statement on this to dispel any doubts.
