Awami League activist detained and released

Dhaka, May 7, 2016: An Awami League activist named Zahangir Alam has been detained for throwing a bomb in the Christian dominated area at Bagadanga which falls in Damoorhuda Police Station  of Chuadanga District.

But police set Zahangir Alam free.

Due to the blast three victims namely 1) Mr.Alam Mondal (45), 2) Mr.Thomas Mondal (40) and 3)Mr. Jony Mondal (25) were seriously injured. The Daily Jugantor dated 7 th May,2016 also covered the news.

Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) contacted with Md. Rashidul Hasan- Superintendent of Police, Chuadanga District who admitted the incident and he said that the accused Awami League activist Zahangir Alam was detained in connection with the case. But he said that after scrutiny they found that the Awami League activist as not involved in this case and therefore he has been freed.

Sunnat Ali father of the victim Alam Mondal lodged the First Information Report in the case.

Md. Liaquat Hossain- Officer in Charge of Damoorhuda police station had no answers to give when BDMW questioned him for releasing the Awami League activist.

Md. Abdul Khaleque- Inspector (Investigation) of Damoorhuda police station told BDMW that the perpetrators came to commit dacoity in the Christian house but when they were unsuccessful they instead did a bomb blast in the house of Alam Mondal, injuring 3 persons. Till writing of this report nobody has been arrested.

It is important to state here that several times Awami League activists have come under scanner for their role in minority persecution.

But since the Awami League is ruling the country, therefore, its activists largely go free.
