New York, May 7, 2016: Pankaj Sarkar (57), Hindu Priest of ISKCON, was attacked and assaulted on last May 5, 2016, at about 2 a.m. at his residence (Near Gher) at Satkhira District, after he refused to pay extortion money of Taka three lacks to the extortionists.
He is the Priest of Kamalkati ISKCON Temple.
Some people came forward to protect him post which the perpetrator fled away but not before warning him to not launch any complaint against the ferocious assault.
The name of the extortionist is Mohammad Zia Sardar (32) son of SaburAli Sardar. He had earlier demanded Taka three lakh from the ISKCON Priest some 3 to 4 days ago.
Zia Sardar also threatened ISKCON priest Pankaj Sarkar that if he failed to pay the extorted money then he would be brutally killed.
The ISCKON priest post the assault was taken to a hospital for treatment where he is said to be in critical state.
Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) contacted with Md. Asaduzzaman- Officer in Charge of Asasuni police station who confirmed the incident. He also said a case has been registered by Palash Sarkar son of Pankaj Sarkar at his police station Asasuni (case No.14 dated 06.05.2016 under section 143/447/323/326/307/385 of penal code) against the perpetrator.
Md. Asaduzzaman also said he that is trying to arrest the perpetrator and has also engaged S.I. Abdur Razzak to investigate the incident.
Bangladesh Minority Watch is very much concerned about this recent incident of human rights violation.
Earlier, a Hindu priest Jageshwar Roy was beheaded in Bangladesh for his religious faith. Many more human rights violations have also come to light from the nation.
However, largely, the government of Bangladesh have kept mum on these atrocities fearing that speaking against them may lead to people losing their faith in it. Neighbouring nation, India, too has never expressed its concern over these violations.
